Civil Engineering Salary

Civil Engineers are the men and women who move the country. Civil engineering is can be a tough and rewarding job as these are the people who are responsible for the building of roads, bridges, tunnels, and dams. They build and design airports and large buildings, and the people who are responsible for both sewage systems and water supplies. They are hired by federal and state governments and by a variety of businesses and a civil engineering salary is usually dependent on not only the location and the type of work a civil engineer does but, also the economy of the various companies they work for.

Depending on the experience and skill of the worker as well as the location where the engineer works a civil engineering salary can average between $43,349 and $91,664 counting the bonuses they receive for completing various projects in a timely manner.  For example, a computer software engineer who is responsible for overseeing the building of a bridge across a river has a deadline for completion of that bridge. However, the company who hires him may want the bridge finished prior to deadline and may offer to pay the engineer a certain amount of money as a bonus for the early completion of the bridge. These bonuses are usually figured by the days shaved from the original date of completion. These bonuses add to what the civil engineering salary is normally but, appears factored into the figures that appear in this article.

The people who planned the Egyptian pyramids and oversaw their construction were civil engineers though their engineering salaries were hardly worth the effort and time that was put into the construction of those pyramids. Today we have the Holland Tunnel, the Golden Gate bridge, and many other magnificent structures due to in a large part to the talents and skills of civil engineers. These are the people that instead of climbing mountains find a way to go through them. They don’t boat across a river they build bridges so people can drive over them. They are skilled and dedicated men and women who make lives easier for the people of various communities and countries. Some civil engineering firms are small and tend to mainly do smaller projects while others tackle giant projects and they are worth every penny of their civil engineering salaries.

But the truth is that most people who go into civil engineering don’t go into the field thinking they will get rich. They do so because that they love the challenge of the type of work they do and for the most part they are incredibly good at their jobs. To these people the civil engineering salary they receive is simply icing on the cake.
